The Template:Cita_news handles Spanish-language (or Italian) parameters for {{cite news}}, as in the Italian Wikipedia template it:Template:Cita_news, with Italian "titolo=" for title. As of June 2013, {cite_news} would issue a red-error message for each unrecognized Spanish parameter as "Unknown parameter |xx ignored..." and so {cita_news} here simply switches any Spanish/Italian parameter into the English equivalent, and translates any date/month names into English, until those cites can be hand-translated into English where needed.

Due to translation of dates/months, the runtime speed of the template is about 20-25 per second, and usage should be limited to about 150 {cita_news} per page, depending on performance needs.

The template can be wp:subst'ed in the form {{subst:cita_news|...}} to generate the equivalent markup as "{{cite news|...}}" but not inside wp:reftags <ref>...</ref> which must be removed before subst'ing and then restored during another edit to a page.

Performance considerations

The Template:Cita_news runs 40-50 per second, but users should translate to {{cite news}}, as time permits. The translations of {cita_news} would typically require expertise in Italian (or Spanish), plus knowledge of the Italian Wikipedia it:Template:Cita_news or the Spanish Wikipedia plantilla, plus knowledge of parameters of the enwiki Template:Cite_news. The parameter list, above, can be used to assist translation of parameter names.

Care should be taken to correctly hand-translate cite data into English; otherwise, the auto-translation of parameters is likely to be more accurate, as well as instantaneous (and without causing wp:edit_conflicts while the user is writing the article).
