Remembrance of British Jews

  Ajex stands for the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women - has an amazing story to tell, that spans some eighty years. Ajex helps families, who find themselves in difficulty, offering help with medical, housing and other essential everyday needs. Ajex specializes in helping mainly Jewish ex-service men and women.

For success Ajex needs…

REMEMBRANCE for the sacrifices of the PAST, HELP for those in need in the PRESENT, EDUCATION for the FUTURE.

The Royal British Legion helps the whole Armed Forces community through charity, community and general support. It does similar work to what Ajex does, helping ex-service men and woman in daily needs; they also help people who are still part of the British armed forces. The British legion does not specialise in a specific religion but specializes in soldiers from Britain. They do this by offering practical care, advice and support.

It is important for Jews to remember the people who fought for us because it helps us understand the sacrifices Jewish people made to the modern day we live in today. It helps us remember how lucky we are and shows us that we should prevent things like this from ever happening again.

Level 5

Ajex and the royal British legion have both similarities and differences. Ajex is a much smaller organisation with about 4,000 individuals who served in the British army in or after World War 2. They use parades and other various events to accomplish their aims; Ajex also focuses of Jewish soldiers more than others. Whereas the royal British legion is a much larger organisation having over 300,000 members, unlike Ajex the royal British legion takes ex-service men from before World War 2 also and helps a diverse variety of people not just Jewish people. The royal British legion also supports a few other charities, similarly to Ajex the royal British legion do parades and speeches to increase supporters.

     I feel the work of both organisations is needed to support more ex-service men and woman. Ajex is very important as it specializing in more specific people, Jewish and ex-service men and woman; this gives people the best support as supporters understand who they are dealing with. British legion is also very important, they help a wider range of people so are helping more and take not just ex-service people and not just Jewish people from just World War 2 onwards. 
     I feel that both organisation are doing very good things for the community, I feel they are helping many people in their own ways, the work they are doing is very chartable and we should learn their offerings there work is suitable for the people they are helping as it helps ex-service men and woman to feel reassured and looked after. Parades and speeches are ideal to fundraise support for the charity they are providing.
     I think that both Britons and Jews should remember recent wars but I think that Jews especially should remember the events that occurred around World War two this is because genocide took place. Many Jews were killed by Hitler and Jews should now remember the events of the past to understand what can happen and how to prevent this from happening, they can also relate to how fortunate we are today. 

Level 6

     I feel the work of both organisations is needed to support more ex-service men and woman. Level 7

Both organisations have succeeded in helping remember people, who fought for us. Royal British legion has more supports and charities but this is a result of them accepting a wider variety of people whereas Ajex specializing in specifics meaning they can give the best support. It is impossible to measure success in this way as both organisation approach there charity differently. Both organisations help people in need for charity and both succeed in helping. The royal British legion does more fund raising like parades and other more interactive events and charities this obviously helps remember the organisation and help acknowledge our debt to those who fought for us.

Level 8

         All of this is important for British Jews in 2014 because the events that took place with Hitler with the previous generation could be forgotten when that generation dies out, modern community especially in Britain means that the wide diversity of culture results is many different remembrances including the national ones. Once the generation of the time of world war two ends then maybe the remembrance will too. If these organisations carry on succeeding in helping then they will be remembered along with the people they helped. Racism is getting better along with genocide but it is not gone, forgetting the sacrifices innocent Jewish people made will cause genocide to repeat itself. Don’t forget sacrifice, but don’t let it happen in vain.
